ASU Thunderbird professor brings leadership insights to Chief Executive magazine

Jeff Cunningham knows what chief executives really think, because he has been one.

The former internet CEO, venture capitalist and publisher of Forbes magazine, now a professor of practice in global leadership at Arizona State University’s Thunderbird School of Global Management, has been named a key contributor for Chief Executive magazine, which graces the desks and coffee tables of top business offices around the world.

Launched in 1976, Chief Executive is published six times a year by Chief Executive Group and provides online content for business leaders worldwide. Its content features information on finance, global business strategy, operations, talent management, technology, and leadership and management, as well as insights from CEOs around the world.

“We’re thrilled to have Jeff as one of our key contributors at Chief Executive,” said Dan Bigman, Chief Executive magazine chief content officer and editor-in-chief. “These days there’s no shortage of leadership advice flying around online, but Jeff really resonates with CEOs by bringing true insights, great interviews and an incisive, tell-it-like-it-is style. He doesn’t pull punches.”

In addition to his role with Forbes, Cunningham has had a distinguished career as a business leader himself as CEO of several digital companies including (founded by Elon Musk), and; managing partner at Schroder Ventures; and founder of Directorship magazine (now the National Association of Corporate Directors' official publication). He has also served as chairman or director on a number of international public company boards. His areas of focus are business leadership, digital startups, corporate governance and innnovation.

“Professor Cunningham brings a lifetime of real-world experience in the boardroom into the classroom,” said Thunderbird Director General Allen Morrison. “He has incredible access to business leaders and policy makers. People are going to enjoy his contributions immensely, and they may learn a few things, too.”

Cunningham joined the Thunderbird faculty in 2015. He graduated with honors in English and literature from SUNY Binghamton in 1974 and attended the Wharton School.
